When I first went to visit the Slovaks in America in 1969, the former chairman of the Slovak League in America, Dr. Peter P. Hletko, gave me a copy of the Pittsburgh Agreement, on which he also wrote his own certification of its authenticity. After returning home to Slovakia, I took some things and documents to the Slovak National Museum, including the Pittsburgh Agreement. I still have many other Slovak-American artifacts, however, since neither the Slovak National Museum, nor any other museum in Slovakia, has provided a place for such things to be exhibited. For this reason, we will strive via this website to make accessible to the public your documents and images of various objects you believe should be seen by others. Internet makes this possible, and as much as we are able, we will be filling this website with a collection of artifacts from the history of Slovak emigration in the hope that one day they will be granted their own real (not only in cyber reality) Museum of Slovak Emigration. |
